Carrfour Secures Grant to House Homeless Vets

The not-for-profit affordable housing developer received the financing from The Home Depot Foundation's Veteran Housing Grants Program to fund Liberty Village in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood. by Dees Striblin

Carrfour Supportive Housing, a not-for-profit affordable housing developer based in Florida, has obtained a $400,000 grant from The Home Depot Foundation's Veteran Housing Grants Program.  The grant will be used to help fund construction of Liberty Village, the organization's latest community in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood.

Liberty Village will consist of 60 apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom units.  In collaboration with Miami-Dade County's Homeless Trust, 48 apartments will be specially allocated for formerly homeless veterans and their families, as well as homeless vets suffering from disabilities.

Residents will receive access to various on-site supportive services geared towards residential stability, resource maximization and self-sufficiency, according to Carrfour.  Comprehensive services provide outreach, case management and resiliency services, and will also assist participants in obtaining VA and other public benefits, including health care, employment training and recovery support.

AMENITIES

The property's amenities include a computer lab, library, covered bicycle racks, on-site washer and dryer facilities, and a vertical community garden, which will support Carrfour's therapeutic and skill-building services.  Liberty Village will be fully ADA compliant and completely wheelchair accessible.

The building's remaining units providing low-income housing for individuals earning at or below 60 percent of the area's median income.  Construction of Liberty Village is currently underway and is expected to be completed in late 2017.
